The Golden Gate Bridge west sidewalk will be closed this weekend for critical infrastructure maintenance activities. The sidewalk closure will begin on Saturday, July 25, at 5:00 a.m. and last until 9:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 26. People biking across the Bridge will be redirected to the east sidewalk, which will remain open for bicyclists and pedestrians throughout the weekend.
The west sidewalk is typically reserved on weekends for people biking across the Bridge. The Golden Gate Bridge District (District) is asking people who bike and walk on the east sidewalk this weekend to exercise extra caution as they share the sidewalk.
Bridge visitorship has declined dramatically under the COVID-19 pandemic and regional shelter-in-place orders. To further reduce crowding, the District has also placed ample signage around entrances to the Bridge to encourage people to stay home and practice physical distancing if they must be out in public. Bridge security staff will continue to monitor pedestrian and bicycle traffic to ensure social distancing is maintained on the Bridge sidewalks.
