Golden Gate Bridge District Toll and Transit Fare Increases Effective July 1

Toll_Increase_July_2023_Web

Golden Gate Bridge tolls and Golden Gate Ferry and Transit fares will increase on Monday, July 1, 2024. The increases are part of the Golden Gate Bridge, Highway & Transportation District (District) five-year tolland transit fare programs.

Golden Gate Bridge tolls will increase by $0.50 for most customers, and most regional Golden Gate Transit Bus and Golden Gate Ferry transit fares will increase by $0.25. Discount fare programs will remain in effect for Clipper users, seniors, youth, persons with disabilities, and low-income riders who participate in the Clipper START program. Marin local bus fares and special event ferry fares will not increase.

The revenue generated through the toll and transit fare increases will allow the District to provide ongoing maintenance of the Golden Gate Bridge and continue Golden Gate bus and ferry transit service. A new five-year toll program was approved in March 2024, and the five-year transit fare program was approved in March 2023.

Tolls and transit fares are the District's primary sources of revenue, with approximately one-third of Bridge toll revenue used to subsidize bus and ferry transit operations. Bridge traffic and transit ridership fell dramatically during the COVID-19 pandemic and have yet to fully recover. Bridge traffic remains approximately 15% below pre-pandemic levels while bus and ferry ridership remain down by approximately 50%. The District has adjusted transit service to reduce expenses and will add service back incrementally as customers return.

Details on the toll and transit fare increases:

Effective July 1, 2024, the FasTrak Account rate will increase from $8.75 to $9.25, the Pay-As-You-Go rate (includes License Plate Accounts and One-Time Payments) will increase from $9.00 to $9.50, the Toll Invoice rate will increase $9.75 to $10.25, and the carpool rate will increase from $6.75 to $7.25. Multi-axle vehicle toll rates will also increase. The full table of new toll rates can be found here.

Golden Gate Transit and Golden Gate Ferry regional transit fares will also increase on July 1. Discount fare programs will remain in effect for Clipper card and Clipper START users, seniors, youth, and persons with disabilities. The full table of new transit fares can be found here.
