The Bridge District, in coordination with the City of San Rafael, Marin Transit, Transportation Authority of Marin (TAM), and SMART, has been working to identify a location for a new San Rafael Transit Center (SRTC). This project has included analysis and identification of potential sites for the transit center in downtown San Rafael, an environmental clearance process, and preliminary design. A preferred transit center location and configuration was anticipated to be selected once the analysis was complete.
The preferred alternative is now identified in the FEIR as the “Move Whistlestop” alternative. Once built, it will create a safe, modern and user-friendly Transit Center that will meet the transit needs for passengers and enhance the surrounding community by providing improved public space and mobility opportunities.
The Golden Gate Bridge District Board of Directors will be heard by the Transportation Committee on Dec 15, and if the recommendation to approve and certify is approved by the committee, it will be referred to the Board of Directors on Dec 16. Meeting information is available HERE.
