TO ASSIST IN REDUCING $132 MILLION 5-YR BUDGET SHORTFALL,
GOLDEN GATE TRANSIT ADJUSTS LOW RIDERSHIP SERVICES EFFECTIVE MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 13, 2010

Adjustments Effective September 12 & 13    |    Trip Planning Assistance

The Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District (GGBHTD) is facing a $132 million five-year projected shortfall due to: (1) Current recession which has resulted in reduced revenues as a result of lower ridership; (2) Loss of transit funding from the State of California; and (3) GGBHTD’s commitment of $75 million toward the Doyle Drive reconstruction project.

The October 2009 adopted GGBHTD Financial Plan includes 33 distinct initiatives that, if implemented, assist in restoring financial stability. Several initiatives have been realized including the establishment of a $3 carpool toll on July 1, 2010 and a GGBHTD salary freeze in effect through December 2010. Specific Golden Gate Transit (GGT) bus service modifications, involving only low ridership, underutilized services, were proposed under initiative #9. A public outreach and education process took place in March and April 2010, with a public hearing on May 14. Following public input, several services originally proposed for elimination were retained: one round trip to Sleepy Hollow in San Anselmo, two Route 44 round trips to Lucas Valley, one southbound Route 76 trip. The annual savings from the following service reductions is estimated at $1.1 million per year.

As a Result of the Public Outreach Process, the Following GGT Bus Service Changes Go into Effect on Monday, Sept. 13, 2010

ROUTE 24 = SERVICE TO LAGUNITAS IS DISCONTINUED
