Service Options In the Event of BART Strike

In the event of a BART strike, East Bay commuters have several choices to access San Francisco via the North Bay.

OPTION #1: Ride Golden Gate Transit (GGT) Bus Service

COMMUTING FROM WESTERN CONTRA COSTA COUNTY

GGT's Route 40 operates from 5:25 am to 7:46 pm weekdays and 6:56 am to 7:20 pm on weekends. Service operates between El Cerrito Del Norte BART and GGT's Transit Center in downtown San Rafael (San Rafael Transit Center) at Third and Hetherton. In the event of a BART strike, the GGT stop at El Cerrito Del Norte BART may be relocated to a temporary stop at San Pablo and Knott Avenue, just north of the BART station. From the San Rafael Transit Center, transfer to: GGT buses to San Francisco Financial District or Civic Center areas OR to GGT buses to Golden Gate Larkspur Ferry Terminal (Route 25, 29, 30, 37).

COMMUTING FROM NORTH OF VALLEJO

If commuting from north of Vallejo to San Francisco catch a GGT Route 56 southbound for San Francisco at Rowland Blvd. Park and Ride lot (212 spaces) off Highway 101 in Novato. Take Highway 37 west to Highway 101, go north to Rowland Boulevard exit. Alternatively, commuters from north of Vallejo catch one of two GGT Route 90 am departures (6:23 am and 10:16 am) bound for San Francisco at Atherton Avenue Park and Ride lot off Highway 37 in Blackpoint. Take Highway 37 west to Atherton Avenue exit to adjoining Park and Ride lot.

Golden Gate Ferry Larkspur Ferry Terminal and RIDE Golden Gate Ferry

Ferries depart Larkspur daily from the Golden Gate Larkspur Terminal located at 101 East Sir Francis Drake Boulevard, Larkspur, CA.

LARKSPUR FERRY DEPARTURES:

Golden Gate Ferries depart Larkspur for San Francisco at 6:05 am; 6:45 am (6:45 am FERRY USUALLY FULL); 7:20 am; 7:30 am; 8:10 am (8:10 am FERRY USUALLY FULL); 8:35 am.

Ferries return from San Francisco to Larkspur at: 3:05 pm; 3:35 pm; 4:20 pm (4:20 pm FERRY USUALLY FULL); 4:45 pm; 5:20 pm; 5:50 pm; 6:15 pm (6:15 pm FERRY USUALLY FULL); 7:05 pm; 7:25 pm.

FARES: The one-way adult fare is $3.10.

PARKING:

The parking lot at Larkspur Ferry Terminal is free and the lot fills early. Parking is NOT allowed in the Larkspur Landing Shopping Center. To access the Terminal, travel west on I-580 across the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge. Take the Sir Francis Drake Blvd. exit and follow signs to the Ferry Terminal. Limited overflow parking will be available as follows.

  1. 400 spaces at Ross Valley Sanitary District: Travel west on I-580 across the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge. Take the Sir Francis Drake Blvd. exit and travel east past San Quentin Prison on Sir Francis Drake Blvd. At the first traffic signal, turn right onto Larkspur Landing Circle. Make an immediate right turn into the Ross Valley Sanitary District parking area. Allow 10 to 15 minutes to walk safely across the street to the Ferry Terminal. No overnight parking.

  2. 200 spaces at Marin Airporter: Travel west on I-580 across the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge. Take the Sir Francis Drake Blvd. exit and travel east past San Quentin Prison on Sir Francis Drake Blvd. At the first traffic signal, make a right turn onto Larkspur Landing Circle and continue for about one half mile to the Marin Airporter terminal. When entering, you will receive a machine-issued parking ticket. KEEP THIS TICKET! When purchasing your ferry ticket at the terminal, be sure to ask for a PARKING COUPON to receive $2 off the regular $4 parking rate at the Marin Airporter. Allow 10 to 15 minutes to walk safely across the street to the Ferry Terminal.

  3. 108 spaces at Park and Ride Lot on Andersen Drive: Travel west on I-580 across the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge. Take the Sir Francis Drake Blvd. exit. Take the FIRST right turn onto Andersen Drive. The Park and Ride Lot is located about 1/2 mile north on Anderson Drive, just north of the AT&T Cable Office building. You must cross the street to board GGT Routes 25 and 29, the free shuttles from this parking lot to ferry departures and arrivals.

OPTION: #3 Drive over the Golden Gate Bridge

Drive across the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge. Take the second exit, "101 South/San Francisco/Sir Francis Drake Boulevard" to Highway 101. If you miss this exit, take the Central San Rafael exit and double-back under the freeway to head south on Hwy 101. Travel south to the Golden Gate Bridge. Tolls are collected in the southbound direction only. The toll rate is $3.00 per two-axle vehicle and $1.50 per each additional axle. Carpools of THREE or more and motorcycles are FREE weekdays, except holidays, between 5 am and 9 am and between 4 pm and 6 pm. The Golden Gate Bridge is equipped with FasTrak and is compatible with FasTrak transponders issued by Caltrans for other Bay Area bridges.

In the evening, motorists can take one of two northbound exits off Highway 101 to access I-580 Richmond Bridge. The first northbound exit to the Richmond Bridge I-580 is right after the Lucky Drive exit in Larkspur and says "Richmond Bridge". The second Richmond Bridge IÜ580 exit is the very next exit to the north, which says "Richmond Bridge/Francisco Blvd./I-580."
