ON JULY 1, 2006, WEST MARIN STAGECOACH SERVICE
EXPANDS TO INCLUDE WEEKEND SERVICE TO STINSON BEACH

Effective July 1, 2006, new schedules for Marin Transit’s West Marin Stagecoach go into effect. Visit www.marintransit.org/stage.html for complete details.

One of the highlights in the schedule changes is that the West Marin Stagecoach South Route 61w will now serve Stinson Beach on weekends beginning July 1. The following is a summary of route changes:

South Route 61, which serves Bolinas, Stinson Beach and Marin City, will operate as follows beginning July 1, 2006:

  • Saturdays (year round) and Sundays (March 15 -November 15): South Route 61w operates via Panoramic Highway/Pantoll Ranger Station.
  • Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays: South Route 61 operates via Shoreline Highway & Highway 1.
  • Wednesdays and Fridays: South Route 61e operates via Shoreline Highway & Highway 1, with an extension to Pt. Reyes Station.


North Route 68 operates Monday through Saturday serving Inverness, Pt. Reyes Station, San Anselmo and San Rafael.

Also, beginning July 1, 2006, the West Marin Stagecoach buses will be able to carry up to 34 passengers, 2 wheelchairs and 2-3 bikes on front racks.

The adult cash fare is anticipated to increase to $2.00 on August 1, 2006. Free transfers can be made for travel within Marin County to Golden Gate Transit (GGT) routes at Marin City for Route 61, 61w or 61e and in San Anselmo or the San Rafael Transit Center for Route 68. Travel to points outside of Marin County will require payment of a new fare upon boarding the GGT bus.

The Stagecoach began in 2002 and is currently funded through Marin County Measure A sales tax funds and federal grant funds.
