Visitors & Events will Impact Golden Gate Bridge,
Golden Gate Transit & Golden Gate Ferry Operations

This page will be updated as information becomes available, so check back often!

With over a million visitors expected to the San Francisco Bay Area for Super Bowl 50 and related events, Golden Gate Bridge, Golden Gate Transit, and Golden Gate Ferry services and operations will be impacted. Visitors and locals will need to plan ahead and expect delays!

Super Bowl 50 events in San Francisco will revolve around two main areas - Super Bowl City, a free outdoor fan village centered around Justin Herman Plaza, and the NFL Experience, a paid-entry pro football theme park at the Moscone Center. Street and pedestrian access closures surrounding these two venues will be in effect from Saturday, January 23 through Friday, February 12 (dates subject to change). Click HERE for SFMTA's main Super Bowl 50 page showing street closures, impacts to Muni services, and downtown pedestrian route maps. • Vista Point (Marin County/north side) will be CLOSED from 11am to 5pm daily from Friday, January 29 thru Sunday, February 7.
  • All Golden Gate Transit buses operating to/from SF provide frequent serve to the Bridge. Additionally, Muni Routes 28 and 76X operate to the Bridge.
  • To access Vista Point using public transit, use northbound GGT Routes 2 (weekday afternoons only), 10 (daily), 70 (late night only), and 92 (weekday peak periods), and Muni Route 76X (weekends only). Golden Gate Transit (GGT)

  • Riders should expect delays from Saturday, January 23 through Friday, February 12. GGT will NOT be adding bus service for Super Bowl 50.
  • Downtown San Francisco roads will be closed and traffic control will be provided by SFMTA. Street closures, crowds, and heavy traffic will impact ALL Golden Gate Transit schedules.
  • From Monday, January 25 thru Friday, February 12, inbound/southbound GGT bus routes will be impacted as follows:
    • Financial District Routes. In the South of Market area, southbound buses will NOT operate on Howard Street and stops at Howard Street & Second Street, Fourth Street & Folsom Street, and Perry Street & Fourth Street will NOT be served. Instead, buses will remain on First Street and turn right on Harrison Street, and temporarily serve the Muni stop at Harrison Street farside Second Street.
    • Midday Financial District Routes 4 & 27. Southbound Route 4 trips departing Strawberry after 8:45am and Route 27 trips departing the San Rafael Transit Center after 9am will NOT serve stops at Battery Street nearside Sacramento Street, Battery Street farside Pine Street, First Street farside Stevensen Street, and Howard farside Second Street. Buses will instead serve Muni stops at Sansome Street farside Clay Street, Sansome Street nearside California Street, and Sansome Street nearside Sutter Street.
  • GGT expects to serve all other SF bus stops; however, this may change. Please check back here frequently for up-to-date detour info and transit service impacts.

Golden Gate Ferry (GGF)

Super Bowl City (at Justin Herman Plaza) will have a secure perimeter. Beginning January 30 and continuing through February 7, GGF customers wishing direct access to Market street from the SF Ferry Building or points west of Drumm Street will be subject to airport-style security screening, including bag inspection and magnetometer scanning. This may create delays. Customer should take note of alternate pedestrian routes to/from the SF Ferry Building and the list of prohibited items from Super Bowl City.

  • Larkspur Ferry will ADD midday and evening service Saturday, January 30 through Saturday, February 6, with additional midday and evening trips. Click HERE for complete GGF Super Bowl 50 schedules. And click for useful customer handouts - Larkspur and Sausalito.
  • Sausalito Ferry will operate regular weekday and weekend service
  • Visitors and new riders to GGF and non-Clipper card holders should purchase tickets in advance to avoid long lines at the terminal. Tickets are available from ticket machines at GGF ferry terminals and are NOT available online or from ticket vendors. Tickets are not for a specific departure and boarding is first-come, first-served.
  • GGF will operate direct service to THE NIGHT BEFORE concert featuring Metallica and Cage the Elephant at AT&T Park on Saturday, February 6. Click HERE for complete details and fare/ticketing info.
  • Underage drinking is illegal and will NOT be permitted in the Larkspur Terminal parking lot or onboard vessels.
  • Larkspur Ferry Terminal parking fees are required weekdays from 5am to 3pm. Click HERE for complete details.
  • Random security screenings are in effect on Golden Gate Ferry. The screening is related to heightened alert throughout the Bay Area for the upcoming Super Bowl. Please approach the gate with your Clipper card or ticket out and your bag open in order to speed boarding.
  • Parking lots are filling to capacity early. Remember to try out our free ferry shuttles to Larkspur Ferry Terminal.
