BACKGROUND

The Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District (District) is one of 21 Bay Area transit operators participating in this program where customers ride public transit free from 4 am to 9 am on the first five “Spare the Air” weekdays (excluding holidays). Using federal monies, the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) and BAAQMD will reimburse the transit operators for the fare revenue that would have been collected during the specified commute hours—estimated at $3.9 million for participating agencies.

The free morning commute program begins June 1 and runs through October 14. This promotion is being funded by MTC and BAAQMD.
