FIVE PLANNED WEEKEND CLOSURES ON THE SOUTH SIDE OF GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE
GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE REMAINS OPEN TO TRAFFIC AT ALL TIMES

 

Between July 31 and October 26, the south side Golden Gate Bridge Toll Plaza and Visitor Areas will experience FIVE WEEKEND CLOSURES to accommodate construction improvements in the area. Improvement includes:

  1. Repaving the tourist parking lot located on the southeast side of the Golden Gate Bridge.
  2. Repaving and adding lighting to the Bridge employee parking lot on the southwest side of the Bridge.
  3. Modifying the utilities and improving the drainage in the tunnel under the Toll Plaza.
  4. Repaving the roadway in the tunnel under the Toll Plaza.
  5. Improvements for persons with disabilities in several areas.

Southbound Traffic Impact: May exit at 25th Ave/Merchant Rd but may not make the immediate right turn down the hill to underpass that provides access to the Southeast Side Visitor Area Parking.

Northbound Traffic Impact: May access the Southeast Side Visitor Area Parking Lot BUT cannot use underpass to access Merchant Rd or southbound Hwy 101.

Public Transit Impact: SF Muni and PresidiGo will not be able to operate through the underpass.

Bicycle/Pedestrian/ Hikers Impact:
Access will be maintained through underpass; CYCLISTS MUST WALK BIKES, signage to be added. Cyclists will alternately also be directed to follow the detour on Lincoln Blvd. to Battery East Rd

Public Transit Impact: SF Muni and PresidiGo will not be able to operate through the underpass and will not serve the stop located on the access road on the southwest side.

Bicycle/Pedestrian/Hiker Impact:
Access will be maintained on the sidewalk of the underpass. CYCLISTS MUST WALK BIKES, signage to be added. Cyclists will alternately also be directed to follow the detour on Lincoln Blvd. to Battery East Rd

  • GGB Main Employee Parking lot (located on the southwest side of the GGB Toll Plaza, and on north side of Merchant Rd)

• One lane of Merchant Rd closed.
• Motorists should expect delays.
• Flaggers and warning signs will be provided.
• No impact to traffic, bicyclists, pedestrians or hikers.
Limited parking in the area. Visitors will be directed to alternate parking at upper lot on Merchant Rd and at lot at Battery East on Lincoln Blvd

  • Entire Southeast Side Visitor Area Parking Lot, except the Northbound ON RAMP to Hwy 101
  • Golden Gate Bridge Toll Plaza Underpass (connection from the Southeast Side Visitor Area Parking Lot to Merchant Rd and to southbound Hwy 101)
  • Access road on southwest side of the GGB Toll Plaza connects from Merchant Rd down the hill to the underpass

Southbound traffic may exit at Merchant Rd but may not make the immediate right turn down the hill to the underpass that provides access to the Southeast Side Visitor Area Parking lot. Southbound traffic wanting to access the visitor area will be redirected to TWO ALTERNATE PARKING LOTS – the employee lots and the Battery East Lot. “ALTERNATE PARKING” SIGNS will be included for the two locations

Northbound Traffic Impacts
Northbound On-Ramp to Hwy 101 from Lincoln Blvd remains OPEN. Traffic may exit but only to access Lincoln and then follow Detour Signs to TWO Alternate Visitor Parking areas at Battery Lincoln and the two lots on the southwest side. NO parking fees will be charged that weekend. “ALTERNATE PARKING” SIGNS will be included for the two locations

Public Transit Impact: SF Muni and PresidiGo will not be able to operate through underpass or through the Southeast Side Visitor Area Parking Lot

Bicycle, Pedestrian, Hikers Impact:

Southbound Traffic Impact: not impacted

Northbound Traffic Impact: There will be no direct access to Presidio and Southeast Side Visitor Area Parking Lot.

Northbound Traffic Detours:
• To access south side GGB visitor parking lots and to access The Presidio: Use Lake St or California St. to 25th Ave to Lincoln Blvd. Reverse this to access Northbound Hwy 101.
• From Marina Blvd., use Mason St, Crissy Field Ave. and Lincoln Blvd to access GGB south side visitor parking lots.

Transit Impacts: Muni and PresidiGo, Tour Buses will be impacted.
