- Continuing thru March/April 2010: Suspender Rope Painting on Bridge East Sidewalk
Suspender rope (vertical ones) painting operations have been underway on the EAST sidewalk (facing San Francisco) of the Golden Gate Bridge since 2009. The work is dependent on weather conditions. For safety, crews work in a 4-foot wide by 200 foot-long work zone along the outside (waterside) railing of the East sidewalk. Barricades are be set up parallel to and 4 feet away from the outside rail. The work zone is clearly marked, and moves along the sidewalk in 200-foot increments as work progresses. Crews are now finishing the project in the areas south of the South Tower and south of the North Tower. The barricades allow a 6 ft. 6 in. clear path for bicycles and pedestrians. Bicyclists must walk their bicycles through the work zone.
- Ongoing: Potential Closure and Detour on North Side of Bridge
The portion of Conzelman Road below the north side of the Golden Gate Bridge is open to bicycle and pedestrian traffic. However, this will be closed in the event the Department of Homeland Security raises the security to "orange" or "red." If closed, use Alexander Avenue to access Fort Baker, Discovery Museum and Sausalito.
