1,000 Golden Gate Transit and Golden Gate Ferry Customers Participate in TransLink® Universal Fare System Pilot Program

On Friday, February 1, select Bay Area commuters will begin paying transit fares using "smart card" electronic fare payment technology when the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) and select Bay Area transit operators kick off a six-month pilot program of the TransLink universal transit-fare card. The start of the pilot program is a significant step forward in the effort to create a seamless regional transit network.

TransLink will be tested on selected routes and at certain stations. Participating transit agencies include AC Transit, BART, Caltrain, Golden Gate Transit (including bus routes 8, 28, 29, 30, 31, 32, 34, 40), Golden Gate Larkspur and Sausalito Ferry, San Francisco Muni, and Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority. The participating transit systems offer a sampling of the Bay Area¹s diverse modal mix, everything from ferries to streetcars to buses to commuter rail. The 4,300 volunteers were recruited because they routinely travel on these TransLink_equipped routes. Approximately 1,000 of the volunteers use Golden Gate Transit or Golden Gate Ferry.

Golden Gate Transit and Golden Gate Ferry pilot program participants can "load" value onto their fare cards at "Add Value Machines" at San Rafael Transit Center, 3rd & Hetherton, San Rafael; Golden Gate Transit, 1011 Andersen Drive, San Rafael; Larkspur Ferry Terminal, 101 E. Sir Francis Drake Boulevard, Larkspur; San Francisco Ferry Terminal, Ferry Plaza, San Francisco; Boardwalk Market, 1550 Tiburon Blvd.,Tiburon. TransLink users can also reload value automatically by subscribing to the TransLink Autoload Program.
