Golden Gate Going Green

Message from the General Manager

The Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District is not changing its name or the color of the Bridge, but we are going “green.” We’re committed to moving toward more environmentally-preferable solutions in our business practices at the Bridge and at our Golden Gate Transit Bus and Golden Gate Ferry facilities.

Over the last few years, we’ve made some easy changes (using more efficient light bulbs, installing low-flow toilets, recycling more) and some not so easy ones (repowering engines, using synthetic oil). More importantly, we’re committed to putting more “green” ideas to work that will benefit the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond. After all, it’s about conserving energy, conserving our planet’s finite resources and staying committed.

Here are just some of the recent changes we’ve made at the Bridge and at our Bus and Ferry facilities:

The Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District remains committed at all of our facilities to develop “green” maintenance procedures and practices, reducing the amount of hazardous waste produced and maximizing our commitment to reduce waste products!
