GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE DISTRICT SEEKS
INDUSTRY REVIEW FOR ADVANCED COMMUNICATIONS AND INFORMATION SYSTEMS PROJECT

The Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District (District) based in San Francisco, CA, operates the Golden Gate Bridge, Golden Gate Transit bus system and the Golden Gate Ferry system.

The District has initiated a project to replace various existing internal radio communications systems with a District-wide radio communications system as well as integrating Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) technology into the communications network.

The new District-wide radio communications system with ITS components will replace the existing radio and Computer Aided Dispatch systems. The project scope is to provide the District with a complete, operating Advanced Communications and Information System (ACIS) with all hardware, software, and service necessary to accomplish the supply, deployment, installation, testing, documentation, training, and startup of the complete system consisting of the following elements:

  • Voice and data radio communications
  • Basic ITS components including Computer Aided Dispatch/Automatic Vehicle Location (CAD/AVL), route and schedule adherence, transfer request protection, and text messaging
  • Real-time passenger information via the Internet, cell phones, and other wireless mobile devices; dynamic message signs at selected transit centers, bus stops, and other locations; real-time information to www.511.org
  • On-board vehicle equipment including mobile data terminal, single point logon interface, emergency alarm, text messaging, and interface with destination signs

Technical Specifications that will be used to procure the ACIS are now available in DRAFT form for Industry Review and comment. It has been found that by giving suppliers the opportunity to review project specifications prior to the release of the Request for Proposals, procurement and deployment delays resulting from questions and confusion about the project can be avoided.

At this time the District invites suppliers interested in bidding on the ACIS to review and comment on the contents of the specifications. The District asks that comments be documented and submitted using this comment form. The District reserves the right to adopt none, some, or all of the comments received. Further, the District will not be responding to comments and questions received.

To insure that all questions and comments are considered, comment forms should be returned by January 4, 2008 to:
