NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING TO
RECEIVE PUBLIC COMMENT ON A PROPOSAL TO INCREASE
GOLDEN GATE FERRY “STORED-VALUE” CLIPPER® FARES

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District (District) will hold a Public Hearing on a proposal to Increase Golden Gate Ferry “Stored-Value” Clipper® Fares, on Thursday, March 22, 2012, at 9:30 a.m., Board Room, Administration Building, Golden Gate Bridge Toll Plaza, San Francisco, CA.

The District is facing a projected $87 million five-year projected deficit as a result of several recent developments, including the current recession, which has resulted in reduced revenues, the loss of state transit funding, and a commitment of $75 million toward the Doyle Drive Reconstruction Project. The Board approved the FY 09/10 Financial Plan for Achieving Long-Term Financial Stability (Plan), which contains 33 different initiatives to reduce costs or generate new revenues on October 30, 2009. This proposal contributes to Initiative No. 25, Renew Transit Fare Increase Plan: Annual 5% Fare Increases for Bus and Ferry Transit Fares, of the Plan.

It is proposed that Golden Gate Ferry stored-value Clipper® fares be increased by five percent each year over a five year period, rounded to the nearest $0.25 beginning July 1, 2012. Fares for seniors, youth and persons with disabilities, single-ride “cash” adult fares, and special event fares are not affected by this proposal.

The staff analysis is available on the District’s web site at www.goldengate.org.

Public comments will be received at the public hearings or may be presented in writing to the Secretary of the District, as follows: Janet S. Tarantino, Secretary of the District, Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District, P.O. Box 9000, Presidio Station, San Francisco, CA 94129-0601. Comments may also be sent by e-mail to publichearing@goldengate.org. Written comments should be received no later than Thursday, March 22, 2012, by 4:30 p.m.

A staff report summarizing the public comments and staff analysis will be presented to the Finance-Auditing Committee at its meeting of Thursday, April 26, 2012. The Committee’s recommendation will be forwarded to the Board of Directors for consideration and action at its meeting of Friday, April 27, 2012.
