NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING
TO RECEIVE PUBLIC COMMENT ON
A PROPOSAL TO INCREASE TOLLS
ON THE GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE,
INCLUDING CONSIDERATION OF VARIABLE TOLLS

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District (District) will hold a Public Hearing on Wednesday, June 11, 2008, at 7:00 p.m., in the Board of Supervisors Chambers, County of Marin, 3501 Civic Center Drive, San Rafael, CA, to receive public comment on a proposal to increase the base tolls on the Golden Gate Bridge, as follows:

  • $6.00 per two axle vehicle for cash customers, and $3.00 for each additional axle;
  • $5.00 per two axle vehicle for FasTrak® customers, and $2.50 for each additional axle;
  • $3.00 per two axle vehicle for the Qualified Persons with Disabilities Toll Program, and a 50% discount to the cash toll for each additional axle.

A toll increase is being considered by the District’s Board of Directors as part of a plan to address a projected $91 million financial deficit over the next 5 years. The effective date of any base toll increase will be no earlier than September 2008, with the understanding that alternative toll options may result from the public involvement process.

The District will also receive public comment on alternative proposals to implement variable tolls on the Golden Gate Bridge, in addition to the proposed base toll increases, for the purpose of further relieving regional congestion in the Golden Gate Corridor consisting of the Golden Gate Bridge and its U.S. Highway 101 approaches, including Doyle Drive, as follows:

  • Variable Toll Option A: Add $1.00 Cash/$.50 FasTrak®, which equates to $7.00 Cash/$5.50 FasTrak®; or,
  • Variable Toll Option B: Add $1.00 Cash/$1.00 FasTrak®, which equates to $7.00 Cash/$6.00 FasTrak®.

The proposed variable tolls would apply during the hours of 7-9 a.m. and 4-6 p.m. on weekdays, and during the hours of 3-7 p.m. on weekends and holidays. The effective date of any variable toll structure may be as early as September 2008, but in no event later than September 30, 2009, with the understanding that alternative variable toll options may result from the public involvement process.

Reports regarding these proposals may be obtained from Janet S. Tarantino, Secretary of the District, Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District, P.O. Box 9000, Presidio Station, San Francisco, CA, 94129-0601, by fax request to 415-923-2013, by using TDD California Relay Service, 711, or at http://www.goldengate.org/board/2008/mtgs-public-h.php.
