I Want to Remain Anonymous
If you want to remain anonymous, you will need to open and maintain a Fastrak Account using cash. An additional benefit of FasTrak is that you pay the discounted toll rate when crossing the Golden Gate Bridge.
Making toll payments anonymously with FasTrak means that no personal information is required, such as address, email address, phone number, credit card, banking information, or vehicle information, including license plate number.
To use a FasTrak Account anonymously, you must mount the FasTrak toll tag properly and use it for all Bridge crossings. When your vehicle goes through the Toll Plaza, the toll tag, when mounted properly on your vehicle, is read by an antennae. As your vehicle passes through the Toll Plaza and you hear a beep, your FasTrak Account is charged the appropriate discounted toll. If, for some technical reason, your toll tag does not beep, cameras will capture images of your vehicle license plate number and an invoice will be mailed to the registered owner of the vehicle.
How it Works
- There are two ways open a FasTrak Account using cash
You can purchase a FasTrak toll tag using cash at select Costco, Safeway or Walgreens. Then you need to register your toll tag by calling the Bay Area FasTrak Customer Service Center at (877) BAY-TOLL (877-229-8655) or 415-486-8655 outside California (click here for hours of operation) and provide the tag number and activation code.
An anonymous FasTrak Account can also be opened in person using Cash/Cashier’s Check/Money Order at the Bay Area FasTrak Customer Service Center, 475 The Embarcadero (at Broadway), San Francisco, CA. Click here for hours of operation.
- All FasTrak Accounts require a prepaid toll balance. You must replenish your account when the "Low Bal" or "Account Low" message appears on the Driver Feedback Display. If your FasTrak Account has insufficient funds when you pass through the Golden Gate Bridge Toll Plaza, an invoice for that crossing will be mailed to the registered owner of the vehicle. If your tag has insufficient funds when crossing a state owned bridge you must pay the toll in cash at the plaza or a violation notice will be mailed to the registered owner of the vehicle.
- Replenish an anonymous FasTrak Account: (1) In Person using Cash at a Cash Payment Location; or (2) In Person using Cash/Cashier’s Check/Money Order at the Bay Area FasTrak Customer Service Center, 475 The Embarcadero (at Broadway), San Francisco, CA (click here for hours of operation); or (3) By Mail using Cashier’s Check/Money Order to the Bay Area FasTrak Customer Service Center, P.O. Box 26926, San Francisco, CA 94126. Be sure to print your FasTrak Account number or toll tag number on the Cashier’s Check/Money Order.
View your account balance and transaction activity anonymously online at www.bayareafastrak.org. To close an account and obtain your deposit plus any unused funds, visit the Bay Area FasTrak Customer Service Center (click here for hours of operation). You will need your Account Number and PIN the first time you go online, found on the account profile letter or provided by the Customer Service Representative when you opened the account.
