Public Hearing Set to Receive Comment on a Proposal to Increase Service for Golden Gate Transit Routes 4 and 27

The Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District will hold a Public Hearing at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 12th, 2015, to receive comments on a proposal to implement increased mid-day service between San Francisco and Marin County. The Public Hearing will take place in the Board Room, Administration Building, Golden Gate Bridge Toll Plaza in San Francisco, CA.

The District implemented a nine-month demonstration project to provide off-peak service on two Golden Gate Transit (GGT) routes between the San Francisco Financial District and Central and Southern Marin County in recognition of the District’s Vision for Golden Gate Transit, and to fulfill other important goals, which included:

  • Providing reverse commute service between San Francisco and Marin County by utilizing existing “deadhead” trips which did not traditionally carry passengers.
  • Offering mid-day, all-day service between Central and Southern Marin County and the San Francisco Financial District;
  • Making a connection between Central Marin County and the Caltrain Station at Third and Townsend Streets for interregional trips, while also serving employees located in the vicinity of the Caltrain Station and Mission Bay including the new UCSF Medical Center.

This increased service adds 21 additional trips and converts 14 deadhead trips to passenger trips on GGT Routes 4 and 27. As a result of the demonstration project, staff recommends implementation of the increased mid-day service as fulfilling an important role connecting Central and Southern Marin County to San Francisco, and linking the Financial District to the Caltrain Station, as well as noteworthy employers in Mission Bay.
