Marin Transit to Hold Public Hearing on Proposed Local Transit Service Improvements, May 20 @ 10 am

Marin County Transit District Board of Directors, Marin County Civic Center, 3501 Civic Center Dr., Rm. 330, San Rafael

Attend a Workshop: May 2, 4, 7, and 8

Golden Gate Transit is responsible for the regional bus services that operate between the counties of Sonoma, Marin, San Francisco, and Contra Costa. Marin Transit is responsible for bus services that operate locally within Marin County. Additionally, under a contract with Marin Transit, Golden Gate Transit operates much of the Marin Transit local services.

Golden Gate Transit staff wanted to alert our Golden Gate Transit regional riders, who may also ride the local Marin Transit services provided by GGT, of an upcoming May 20 public hearing.

The May 20 public hearing is being held to receive comments on proposed service improvements on many local routes operating within Marin County that would go into effect in August 2013. Approximately 15,000 hours (+10%) of local service will be added throughout the county. These changes are the result of Marin Transit’s Novato and Tiburon Transit Needs Assessment studies and the opening of Target in San Rafael.

A summary of the proposed changes for August 2013 is shown below, with all of the details available at http://marintransit.org/2013-service-changes.html.

  • Replace Route 51 in Novato with Route 251
  • Extend Route 257 and Route 259 into Novato
  • Replace Route 19 in Tiburon with Route 219 / 219F (ferry feeder) and expand service
  • Extend Route 23 east of the San Rafael Transit Center (SRTC) to serve the Canal and Target
  • Replace Route 29 weekend service with Route 28
  • Restructure Route 17 and Route 22 in South County
