…hours limited on ferry system this season

Passengers riding most Bay Area transit systems, and specifically Golden Gate Transit buses and both Golden Gate Larkspur and Sausalito Ferry, can take advantage of FREE rides on the first four (4) non-holiday “Spare the Air” weekdays between Friday, June 1 and Friday, October 12, 2007. If a Spare the Air day is declared on Monday, July 9, 2007, or Tuesday, July 10, 2007, due to heightened security requirements at AT&T Park and expected heavy passenger loads during the All-Star Game festivities, transit will NOT BE FREE on these days.

In response to concerns of overcrowding expressed by customers specifically using Golden Gate Larkspur and Sausalito Ferry, as well as BART, during last year’s Spare the Air season, this season offers new FREE RIDE hours for Bay Area ferry systems and rail systems as follows:

  • Golden Gate Larkspur and Sausalito Ferry: Ride FREE through to 1 pm
  • Golden Gate Transit buses: Ride FREE all day
  • Marin Transit: Ride FREE all day
  • Weekdays excluded from free transit rides: July 9 and July 10

Spare the Air Days are declared by the Bay Area Air Quality Management District (Air District). The public can receive advance notification of “Spare the Air” days by registering for “AirAlerts” at Acting on the success of the Spare the Air/Free Transit program over the past several seasons, the Metropolitan Transportation Commission and the Air District are again providing the funding to support the program for another season.
