Golden Gate Bridge District Family Mourns the Passing of Board Member and Marin County Supervisor Charles McGlashan on Sunday, March 27, 2011

Charles McGlashan will be greatly missed by the Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District (GGBHTD) family and so many others. His smile, energy, commitment, leadership, and dedication to making great things happen was infectious and will not be forgotten.

On January 23, 2007, Marin County Supervisor Charles McGlashan was appointed to serve on the (GGBHTD) Board of Directors as one of four Marin County representatives. When joining the GGBHTD McGlashan shared, “This is a thrill and an honor, having grown up admiring the Bridge, a symbol of my home state - California. I look forward to the fiscal and operational challenges of this landmark and transit system.”

One of McGlashan’s passions was working tirelessly to see the Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit (SMART) system become a transportation reality. During almost four years of service on the GGBHTD Board of Directors, he was constant advocate for:

  • bicyclists using the bridge, buses and ferries;
  • supporting the utilization of the cleanest technology available for our bus and ferry engines;
  • championing as balanced a public transit system as possible for Marin County within the limited resources available;
  • supporting the Implementation of safety enhancements for the Golden Gate Bridge;
  • building regional consensus through a regional vision and leadership.
