Staff Report: Set a Public Hearing on March 7

Staff Report: Recommend Approval of Actions Relative to Giants Ferry Fares

Finance Committee Approves Proposals for Golden Gate Larkspur Ferry Special Event Service to AT&T Park

On Thursday, March 6, 2013, following the 9:30 a.m. public hearing on two proposals described below, the Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District’s Finance-Auditing Committee authorized the approval the proposals. The full Board will be asked to concur with this decision at their March 8 meeting. Following Board concurrence, the Giants ferry tickets will be available for purchase online by the week of March 18.

The proposals authorized include: (1) a $2 service charge will be added to each $9 one-way Giants ferry ticket purchase and (2) the previously authorized $0.50 fare increase to the AT&T Park special event ferry fare will be deferred until November 15, 2013.

Special event Golden Gate Ferry tickets will be sold via the San Francisco Giants website at http://sanfrancisco.giants.mlb.com with the ticketing driven using tickets.com. Customers will be provided a streamlined, 1-step ticket purchasing process that also provides the added convenience of purchasing both game and ferry tickets at the same time. With the online sales, the ferry tickets can then be printed out at home, or sent to a smart phone, or mailed. Ferry customers will also be able to buy AT&T ferry tickets by calling the Tickets.com, and the District is working to secure a walk-up location. The ferry tickets are then easily scanned with bar code readers provided by tickets.com for verification at the Larkspur Ferry Terminal and at the AT&T Ballpark for the return trip.

The AT&T Park special event ferry fare is $9 and convenience fee (per tickets.com) of $2 per ticket will be added to each ferry ticket. Also, the previously adopted and pre-programmed fare increase of $0.50 will be deferred until November 2013.
