Board of Directors Set a Public Hearing for 9:30 am March 7 to Receive Comments on Proposals for the Golden Gate Larkspur Ferry Special Event Service to AT&T Park: (1) Defer a previously authorized 0.50 cent fare increase and (2) Add a $2 online service fee for ticket purchases

At the Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District’s Board of Directors meeting on Friday, February 22, 2013, at 10 am, the Board set a public hearing for March 7, 2013, at 9:30 a.m. in the Board Room, Administration Building, Golden Gate Bridge Toll Plaza, San Francisco, CA. The hearing was set to receive public comment on two proposals associated with a change to selling special event ferry tickets through tickets.com for the 2013 season:

When purchasing tickets for Golden Gate Ferry fare special event ferry service from Larkspur to AT&T Park, (1) a $2 tickets.com service charge will be added to the $9 one-way ferry, and (2) the previously authorized $0.50 fare increase (authorized to take effect July 1, 2013 as part of a Five-Year Fare Increase Program) to the basic AT&T Park special event ferry fare until November 15, 2013.

Year How to Purchase Special Event Ferry Tickets One-Way Fare Total one-way fare with service fees
Through 2011 In person at terminals or online at tickets.com with added service fees Up to $8.75 Up to $11.75 to $12.75
2012 Customers purchased either a Clipper Card or a limited use ticket from terminal ticket machines, then they went online to make a reservation to ensure boarding at a cost of $1. $8.75 - $9 $9.75 - $10
2013 proposed Proposal is to sell each $9 one-way special event ferry ticket with a $2 tickets.com service fee added, bringing the total cost to $11 per one-way ticket. $9 $11

New Fare Structure Proposed for Comment at Public Hearing

Special event Golden Gate Ferry tickets would be sold via the San Francisco Giants website at http://sanfrancisco.giants.mlb.com with the ticketing driven using tickets.com. Customers will be provided a streamlined, 1-step ticket purchasing process that also provides the added convenience of purchasing both game and ferry tickets at the same time. With the online sales, the ferry tickets can then be printed out at home, or sent to a smart phone, or mailed. Ferry customers will also be able to buy AT&T ferry tickets by calling the Tickets.com, and the District is working to secure a walk-up location. The ferry tickets are then easily scanned with bar code readers provided by tickets.com for verification at the Larkspur Ferry Terminal and at the AT&T Ballpark for the return trip.

Tickets.com has proposed to charge the District $1.50 per one way ticket for internet sales, $3.50 per one way ticket for telephone sales, and a 2.5% credit card processing fee.

The District is proposing, for public comment, to pass on a flat service fee charge of $2 per ticket, regardless of which means is used for purchase via tickets.com, online or by phone. The public hearing is to invite public comment on the proposal to pass-through the fee of $2 per ticket by adding it to the total price of each AT&T Park ticket.

The current AT&T Park special event ferry fare is $9. The District's adopted FY 2012-2016 Five-Year Transit Fare Program calls for this fare to increase to $9.50 on July 1, 2013. It is recommended, as part of the public hearing process, that the $0.50 increase be deferred until November 15, 2013. The public hearing will also invite public comment on this postponement.
