Clarification on How to Use Free San Francisco Muni Passes

Through March 31, 2010, free Muni passes are available to Golden Gate Ferry customers at the Larkspur and San Francisco Ferry Terminals through automated transfer coupon machines.

To receive free passage on the Muni system, Golden Gate Ferry customers must present and then surrender the free Muni transfer coupon that ferry customers obtain from the machines at the ferry terminals to either a Muni Operator (for street-level vehicles) or to a Muni Metro Station Agent. Customers transferring to Muni are then issued a valid Muni transfer that is honored on the Muni system.

Free Muni transfer coupons received from the Golden Gate transfer coupon machines are not valid for use on the Muni cable car system.

NOTE: On April 1, 2010, a new fare coordination agreement between Golden Gate Transit/Ferry and the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Authority (Muni) takes effect. Muni customers transferring to Golden Gate Transit/Ferry receive a fare credit (50-cents for adults, and 25-cents for youth, senior, and disabled) on their Golden Gate TransLink fare (excludes Muni Monthly Pass and 10-ride book TransLink customers). Golden Gate Transit/Ferry TransLink customers transferring to Muni receive a 50-cent credit on their Muni TransLink fare (adult customers only, excludes Muni Monthly Pass customers).
