Pelican Safely Recovered from Golden Gate Bridge Roadway

A pelican was safely recovered on Golden Gate Bridge roadway on Sunday, August 10, 2008, at about 2:44 pm. The pelican was standing in the southbound curb lane and appeared not injured. But it was not flying. It was taken by Bridge Patrol off the roadway and was turned over to Humane Society staff. Traffic was held for 10 to 15 minutes.

The bird was taken to WildCare in San Rafael, CA, and then transferred to the International Bird Rescue Research Center in Cordelia, CA, where there's a large aviary for recovering pelicans.
