Golden Gate Bridge Parking Lots Closed 11AM to 5PM
Mother's Day, Sunday, May 13, 2018

On Mother's Day - this Sunday, May 13 - the Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District (GGBHTD) will restrict personal vehicles at the Welcome Center parking lot at the south end of the Bridge and the Vista Point parking lot at the north end of the Bridge between 11:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. We hope these measures will mitigate the significant traffic backups that occur on busy weekends as visitors queue for a limited number of parking spaces.

Visitors to the Golden Gate Bridge during these peak hours can still enjoy the view from the Welcome Center and the Vista Point overlooks, but they'll need to come by public transit, bicycle, tour bus, corporate shuttle, taxi, or ride-sharing service such as Lyft or Uber, or park in the overflow lots along Lincoln Blvd and in the Presidio. Tour buses will be allowed to park at both the Welcome Center and Vista Point lots. Taxis and rideshare vehicles will be allowed to pick-up and drop off passengers at the Welcome Center ONLY - they will not be allowed to enter Vista Point. In addition, no taxi or rideshare staging or waiting will be allowed and ridesharing vehicles will need proper identification, such as a decal.

The Welcome Center will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and caf├ęs will be open to serve food and drink as usual. Visitors can plan their transit trip HERE or by calling the Golden Gate Customer Service Center at 511 (say "Golden Gate Transit")/TDD 711, weekdays, except holidays, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Electronic signs will notify drivers of the lot closures in advance of the Bridge, and signs will also be placed on the Bridge itself leading up to the Vista Point exit.

This change from usual operations is the result of joint cooperation between Caltrans (which owns Vista Point and has issued a permit for this Sunday's closure), the California Highway Patrol, the National Park Service, and the GGBHTD.

The area affords many beautiful alternate locations to view the Bridge. A list of seven other lookout points can be found here:
