Moveable Median Barrier One Year Anniversary

Today marks the one-year anniversary of the installation of the Moveable Median Barrier on the Golden Gate Bridge. The MMB represents the most significant traffic safety improvement ever implemented on Bridge. In the past year, the barrier has been moved more than 1,200 times without incident and it has prevented several potentially disastrous crossover accidents.

“We're very pleased with function and operation of the Moveable Median Barrier and the zipper trucks that put it in place each day,” says Bridge Manager Kary Witt. “This lifesaving barrier is the result of the vision of the District's Board and management team, design from Engineering, and everyday operations and maintenance by Bridge Division employees.”

Bridge Manager Kary Witt is available for on camera interviews until 3:30 p.m. today.
