Sunday, June 5, 2011, Escape From Alcatraz Triathlon Course Passes under South Side of Golden Gate Bridge

Golden Gate Bridge Roadway and Sidewalks Remain Open

Expect delays on the adjacent roadways and trails on the South Side of the Bridge from 9 am to noon

On Sunday, June 5, 2001, as many as 2,000 participants in the Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon begin the competition with a swim from Alcatraz Island to the Marina Green Beach. Next, they jump on their bikes and begin the out-and-back 18-mile ride by heading west toward Crissy Field via Marina Boulevard. The final leg is the out and back 8-mile run to Baker Beach from Marina Green. The final leg of the Triathlon, the 8-mile run under the south abutment of the Golden Gate Bridge where the course connects the competitors to the Coast Trail out and back to Baker Beach.

The Golden Gate Bridge roadway and east sidewalk REMAIN OPEN during the triathlon. Areas adjacent to the race course will experience congestion and delays.
