Delays Expected at the South End of the Golden Gate Bridge during Escape From Alcatraz Triathlon on Sunday, June 9, 2019

Bridge Roadway & Sidewalks Will Remain OPEN at All Times. Delays Expected on Adjacent Roads, Parking Lots & Trails from 6:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

On Sunday, June 9, 2019, visitors to the south end of the Golden Gate Bridge should expect delays on adjacent roadways and parking lots and on the Bridge sidewalks from about 6:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. due to the Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon.

The annual race features a 1.5-mile swim from Alcatraz Island to the shores of San Francisco, a tough 18-mile bike ride up and down hills, and a demanding 8-mile run through the trails of the Golden Gate National Recreational Area. Runners will pass under the south abutment of the Golden Gate Bridge where the course connects competitors with the Coastal Trail and Baker Beach.

The Golden Gate Bridge roadway and sidewalks will REMAIN OPEN during the race. Areas adjacent to the race course will experience congestion and delays from about 6:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
