Basics for Sunday, May 27, 2012

  • Sunday, May 27, Golden Gate Festival, from Fort Point to Marina Green is expected to draw tens of thousands of people. There will also be celebration activities at Ghirardelli Square, Fisherman’s Wharf, and Pier 39.
  • Please do not drive into or within San Francisco on May 27, as the City is anticipating severe traffic congestion and potential gridlock.
  • TAKE PUBLIC TRANSIT, WALK, OR BIKE. Plan your route beforehand.
  • All parking in the event vicinity is CLOSED on May 27.
  • Golden Gate Festival starts at 11 am.
  • Fireworks start at approx. 9:30 pm along the waterfront from Fort Point to Marina Green, where visibility is optimum.
  • Fireworks ARE NOT VISIBLE from EAST of Marina Green including the area from Fisherman's Wharf to The Embarcadero.

Sunday, May 27: CLOSED to vehicles at 5 pm. Vehicles can exit the lot up to approx. 9 pm, and from approx. 9 pm to after the fireworks, vehicles will not be allowed to exit the lot. After 5 pm, the public is allowed to continue access Vista Point by foot or bicycle. As bridge sidewalks start to CLOSE at 5 pm, there will be no access on to the sidewalks starting at 5 pm and there will only be access allowed out of Vista Point lot north to Alexander Ave. heading into Sausalito. ADA Parking available on a first come, first served basis.

GGNRA Parking Lot -- North west end of GGB and Conzelman Road into the Headlands

6 pm Alexander Avenue vehicle hard closure points are: Out of Sausalito at the City limit at East Road and towards Sausalito at the north end the hard closure point is at Alexander and Highway 101 off exit.

East Fort Baker - access in and out any time by bike and pedestrians

Golden Gate Ferry Options for May 27

FERRY OPTION #1: Park and Ride Shuttle to Larkspur Ferry, Ferry to San Francisco, Muni to Golden Gate Festival

Ride Shuttle Bus and Connect to Larkspur Ferry

Marin County Stops:

  • Rowland Boulevard Park & Ride, Novato
  • Smith Ranch Road Park & Ride, Terra Linda
  • San Rafael Transit Center, 3rd & Hetherton

First shuttle bus departs Rowland at 3:11 pm, serving the Park and Ride lots listed above. Then shuttles operate every 30 to 45 minutes to Larkspur Ferry Terminal where vessels will depart every 30 minutes from 4 pm to 7:30 pm, with a final departure to San Francisco at 8:15 pm.

Sonoma County Stops:

  • GGT Terminal at Piner & Industrial, Santa Rosa
  • Veterans Park & Ride, Maple & Brookwood, Santa Rosa
  • Rohnert Park Expressway Park & Ride, Rohnert Park
  • Fairgrounds Park & Ride, Petaluma

First shuttle bus leaves Piner & Industrial at 2:43 pm, serving the Park and Ride lots listed above. Then shuttle buses operate every 30 to 45 minutes to Larkspur Ferry Terminal where vessels will depart every 30 minutes from 4 pm to 7:30 pm, with a final departure to San Francisco at 8:15 pm.

Once the ferry reaches San Francisco, go to Embarcadero Muni Metro Station by walking through the Ferry Building out to The Embarcadero. Cross The Embarcadero to Market St and continue west a short distance along Market St. The entrance to the underground Embarcadero Muni Metro Station is at Drumm St. Once inside the station, be sure to enter Muni Metro, not BART.

Take any outbound Muni Metro train (K Ingleside, L Taraval, and M Ocean View lines) to Civic Center Station and transfer to Muni Route 47L. Trains depart every 4 to 5 minutes, and the trip takes 7 minutes. At Civic Center Station, proceed to street level and board Muni Route 47L on Grove Street.

Leaving San Francisco
Board Muni Route 47L at Fillmore & Bay (click here for stops/schedule) and take it back to the Civic Center Station. Take any inbound Muni Metro train (L Taraval, M Ocean View, and T Third lines) to Embarcadero Station. Exit the station and walk towards the Ferry Building to return to the Golden Gate Ferry.

From 10 pm to 12:15 am (and as late as 1:15 am if needed), vessels will depart every 30 minutes. Buses will be waiting at Larkspur Terminal to carry passengers back to their starting points. Buses with “Novato” signs will serve the specified Marin County Park & Ride lots, and buses with “Santa Rosa” signs will serve the specified Sonoma County Park & Ride lots.

Clipper Card: Regular fares will apply. Passengers are encouraged to use Clipper cards as they speed boarding and offer discounted fares. Visit www.clippercard.com for a list of locations selling Clipper cards and directions on how to use the cards on GGT and GGF.

Cash: Cash customers who use the added GGT Park and Ride Lot shuttles MUST PAY FULL FARE to San Francisco on board the bus and receive a transfer to the ferry. To expedite boarding, please have exact fare ready. For the one-way trip to San Francisco, the fares are:

FERRY OPTION #2: Golden Gate Ferry to San Francisco, Muni to Golden Gate Festival

Golden Gate Sausalito Ferry will operate beyond its normal 6:50 pm departure so bicyclists will not be stranded on one side or another during the Bridge Fireworks closure.

Golden Gate Larkspur Ferry Operates ADDED SERVICE

  • Parking is limited at the Larkspur terminal, so allow up to 45 minutes prior to your departure for parking and ticketing.
  • To AVOID long lines at the ticket machines at Larkspur at SF Ferry terminals, pre-purchase tickets or Clipper card prior to May 27.

Ferry Fares

Golden Gate Transit Bus Service for May 27

GGT Bus Directly to/from Golden Gate Festival
In addition to normal Sunday/Holiday bus service trips, Routes 70 and 80 will operate SUPPLEMENTAL trips, with at least six added trips into San Francisco and at least ten trips added out of San Francisco.

The SUPPLEMENTAL service will provide service south from Novato about every 15 minutes (from 4:16 pm and 6:47 pm) and south from Santa Rosa every 15 to 30 minutes (from 2:58 pm to 5:29 pm) to San Francisco. After the fireworks, service will run every 15 minutes from about 9:45 pm to 11:30 pm all the way to Santa Rosa.

Arriving in San Francisco
Route 70 and 80 passengers will be dropped off at Richardson Avenue & Francisco Street, just 6 short blocks from the Golden Gate Festival area. The supplemental bus trips do not continue any further into San Francisco and will say “San Francisco/Presidio Only" in the head sign. If your destination is south of Richardson & Francisco, board a regularly scheduled (Sunday schedule) Route 70 or 80 bus.

Leaving San Francisco
Board Routes 70 and 80 at Lombard & Fillmore Streets or Richardson Avenue & Francisco Street, both of which are 6 blocks from the Golden Gate Festival. Supplemental trips will NOT operate via Sausalito; customers must use the regularly scheduled Sunday trips on Routes 70 and 80. If your destination is Sausalito, inquire when boarding if the bus will serve Sausalito.

Muni Information for the 75th Anniversary

SFMTA will provide supplemental bus service on the following bus routes to the event area from 1 p.m. until after the event:

Special Bus Service
The 47L Van Ness Limited special bus service will be provided beginning at 1 p.m. between Civic Center and the Marina. This bus route will only serve the following stops:
Civic Center BART/Muni Station, Grove and Larkin streets
Van Ness Avenue and Geary Street
Van Ness Avenue and Sacramento Street
Fillmore Street and Bay Street

Regular Muni fares will apply.
The 47L buses will provide pre-event service from the Civic Center BART/Muni station (Grove and Larkin streets) until 8:30 p.m.; post-event service from Fillmore and Bay streets back to the Civic Center BART/Muni station will be available from approximately 9:50 p.m. until midnight.

Passengers who wish to board at Civic Center station should take the Grove Street exit from the Civic Center BART/Muni station. SFMTA staff will be on site to assist customers.
The last bus will depart Fillmore and Bay streets stop at midnight.
