NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District (District) will hold three public hearings to receive public comment on a proposed five-year fare program to increase regional bus, ferry and paratransit fares in order to meet operating expenses.  It is proposed that these fares be increased effective July 1, 2006.  Bus and paratransit fares for local travel within Marin County are not included in this proposed program.  The public hearings will be held on the following dates, times and locations:

  1. Thursday, February 16, 2006, at 7:00 p.m., in the City Council Chambers, Rohnert Park City Hall, 6750 Commerce Boulevard, Rohnert Park, CA;
  2. Wednesday, March 8, 2006, at 6:00 p.m., in the Board Room, Administration Building, Golden Gate Bridge Toll Plaza, San Francisco, CA; and,
  3. Thursday, March 9, 2006, at 6:00 p.m., in the Activities Room, The Whistlestop, 930 Tamalpais Avenue, San Rafael, CA.

All public hearings will be immediately preceded by a two-hour informational open house conducted by staff to provide the public with background and context for the proposed five-year fare program.

The District has developed strategies to reduce costs and increase revenues as part of its Strategic Plan for Achieving Long-Term Financial Stability.  Since Golden Gate Bridge and Golden Gate Transit user fees represent the majority of District revenues, increases in transit fares represent a component of the District’s Strategic Plan.
