GGT Routes 40 & 42 Merging - Service to Richmond BART Station Discontinued

Customers Have Travel Alternatives

On Sunday, December 13, 2015, Golden Gate Transit (GGT) Routes 40 and 42 will merge into a single route (Route 40) to improve travel times and increase service levels. The new Route 40 will operate on weekdays from 5:30 a.m. to 11:25 p.m., with enhanced service during the busiest times of the day. On weekends, Route 40 will run from 6:00 a.m. to 10:25 p.m.

In Marin County, the route will follow the existing Route 40 alignment in the westbound direction. In the eastbound direction, the route will begin serving the bus stop in front of the San Rafael Post Office on Bellam Boulevard.

In the East Bay, the route will follow the existing Route 40 alignment in both directions, thereby eliminating direct service to the Richmond BART Station. Passengers transferring to/from BART can use the El Cerrito del Norte BART Station instead. Passengers traveling to/from downtown Richmond can use AC Transit to complete their trips. Transfers to AC Transit will continue to be free for GGT customers (for the first AC Transit bus boarded). GGT accepts AC Transit interagency vouchers for $2.10 fare credit for cash paying adults and $2.00 for Clipper customers ($1.05 for youth/senior/disabled).

While some passengers may experience an increase in transfer times, faster overall travel times and increased service levels are expected to offset the increase.
