Golden Gate Bridge, Highway & Transportation District

NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING
TO RECEIVE PUBLIC COMMENT ON
POTENTIAL CHANGES TO GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE, HIGHWAY AND TRANSPORTATION DISTRICT TRANSIT SERVICE ON THE TIBURON PENINSULA

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District (District) will hold a Public Hearing to receive public comment, as follows:

Thursday, January 21, 2016, 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Belvedere-Tiburon Library, Founders Room
1501 Tiburon Boulevard, Tiburon, CA

The Blue & Gold Fleet (Blue & Gold) will be discontinuing its peak period ferry fare between Tiburon and San Francisco. In light of public interest and the goal of reducing commute traffic on the Golden Gate Bridge, the District is considering the possibility of operating the peak period ferry service between Tiburon and San Francisco. Because Golden Gate Ferry does not presently operate between Tiburon and San Francisco, a new route must be established.

The District currently operates Golden Gate Transit (GGT) Route 8 bus service on the Tiburon Peninsula, which provides two morning trips to the San Francisco Financial District and one afternoon trip from San Francisco back to Tiburon. Because Route 8 has been a very low productivity route for several years, and more than half of the riders board Route 8 along the U.S. 101 corridor where there is alternate GGT bus service, the District is considering the possibility of discontinuing Route 8. The resources that currently support Route 8 could be redirected to support partially the cost of peak period ferry service between Tiburon and San Francisco. The District is also receiving public comment on the establishment of a Tiburon to San Francisco peak period ferry fare.

Reports regarding these proposals may be obtained from the Secretary of the District, Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District, P.O.
