May is National Bike Month & Bike to Work Week is May 10 to 14, 2010
Bike to Work Day is Thursday, May 13, 2010

On Thursday, May 13, 2010, thousands of Bay Area residents will take to the streets for a zero-emission commute on their bicycles. As in past years, Golden Gate Larkspur Ferry Terminal will host Bike to Work Energizer Station between 6 am and 9 am. Stop by the Energizer Station which will be located to the left of the ticket window area to get your FREE goodie bag!

Nearly 40 percent of Bay Area commuters live within five miles of their workplace. If everyone who lives within this ideal distance pedaled to work on May 13, 2010, thousands of cars would be off the road and air pollution could be reduced significantly that day. Experience bicycle commuting as a healthy and viable way to get to work! For more information on Bike to Work Day, visit www.bayareabikes.org.

Bike Accommodations on Golden Gate Ferry Vessels

Capacities vary based on the type of vessel and the passenger load of a given trip. Electric bicycles are not permitted on Sausalito Ferry. GGF also allows folding bikes on all vessels. Folding bikes should be stowed in an appropriate carry-on bag safely under a seat or in another location deemed safe by onboard crew. Folding bikes should not be stowed using the bike racks reserved for regular, non-folding bicycles.

Sausalito Ferry: A 715-passenger Spaulding vessel is used on this route that can accommodate approximately 200 bicycles. The actual number permitted will vary depending on various operating conditions, including passenger counts.

Larkspur Ferry: High-speed catamaran vessels are used on weekdays and a 715-passenger Spaulding vessel is used on the weekends. The catamaran vessels have stowage for 15 bikes and the actual number permitted will vary depending on various operating conditions, including passenger counts. The Spaulding vessels can accommodate about 100 bikes and the actual number permitted will vary depending on various operating conditions, including passenger counts.

Bike Racks at Ferry Terminals

Golden Gate Larkspur Ferry Terminal can accommodate approximately 71 bikes as follows: 30 racks are located outside the paid waiting area that can accommodate 60 bikes, and 1 bike rack with 11 slots inside the covered paid waiting area.

Golden Gate San Francisco Ferry Terminal can accommodate 15 bikes as follows: 1 rack with the capacity for 9 bikes inside the paid waiting area on the Larkspur waiting area side. This rack is not covered. Six metal bike bars (upside down U-shape), anchored into the concrete outside of and to the west of the paid waiting area, can accommodate 1 bike each.

There are several bike parking zones in downtown Sausalito very close to the Sausalito Ferry Landing.
