Sunday, May 19, 2013, Stage 8 – San Francisco to Santa Rosa
Crosses the Golden Gate Bridge Roadway

Roadway Remains Open to Traffic. CHP will HOLD Traffic with a Rolling Break for 5 to 10 minutes as the Tour Crosses the Bridge Roadway

For the first time, the Tour of California is traveling from south to north, starting in Escondido and ending with the final stage, Stage 8, going from San Francisco to Santa Rosa, across the Golden Gate Bridge.

Stage 8 will start at 8:15 am at Marina Green in San Francisco and crosses the Golden Gate Bridge roadway starting at about 8:20 am as the peloton heads north to Santa Rosa.

The BRIDGE ROADWAY REMAINS OPEN to TRAFFIC during the event.

Golden Gate Bridge ROADWAY Lanes

By approximately 6 am, the roadway lanes of the Golden Gate Bridge will be reconfigured to accommodate the 2013 Amgen Tour of California Bicycle Racers.

The Golden Gate Bridge lane configuration will be:

2 southbound traffic lanes OPEN

2 northbound traffic lanes OPEN

2 lanes (two eastern most lanes) CLOSED to accommodate the Amgen Tour of California

By approximately 9:30 am, the Bridge roadway will be returned to 3 northbound lanes and 3 southbound lanes.

Golden Gate Bridge SIDEWALK Access

Spectators are encouraged to hike or ride their bicycles to access the Bridge sidewalks as parking is limited.

East sidewalk will OPEN ONLY TO PEDESTRIANS at sunrise. NO BICYCLES will be allowed on the east sidewalk (as is normal on a Sunday).

West sidewalk will OPEN ONLY TO BICYCLISTS at sunrise (as is normal on a Sunday).

AMGEN TOUR OF CALIFORNIA OFFICIALS ANNOUNCE 2013
HOST CITIES INCLUDING SAN FRANCISCO AND SANTA ROSA

Tuesday, November 27, the Amgen Tour of California race officials announced the host cities for the May 12-19, 2013, cycling event. The announcement was made in Escondido, CA, with Stage 1 heading north from Escondido, CA.

Amgen Tour of California officials also announced that, on Sunday, May 19, 2013, the Tour’s last stage will travel north from the host city of San Francisco and finish in the host city of Santa Rosa.

For the 2013 event, the race is planned and anticipated, with details still being worked out, to cross the Golden Gate Bridge as it moves from San Francisco northward to Santa Rosa. The GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE ROADWAY will remain OPEN to traffic at all times.
Working closely with Amgen Tour officials, extensive race event planning is underway now to ensure that all potential impacts to traffic and the travelling public on the morning of Sunday, May 19, 2013 are minimal.

This is the first year that the race will go south to north, and the eight year for the cycling event. The cycling race last crossed the Golden Gate Bridge during torrential a downpour in February 2009.
