AMGEN TOUR OF CALIFORNIA CROSSES GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE

PRESIDENTS’ DAY - MONDAY, FEBRUARY 16, 2009

MOTORISTS SHOULD EXPECT DELAYS IN THE AREA 7 AM to NOON

GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE REMAINS OPEN DURING EVENT

NO PARKING, NO DROP-OFFS ALLOWED AT THE GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE

PARKING LOTS WILL BE CLOSED AT MIDNIGHT

The Amgen Tour of California crosses the Golden Gate Bridge (Bridge) roadway for the first time as part of Stage 2 which begins in downtown Sausalito at 8:30 am on Bridgeway at Spinnaker Drive, a short walk from the ferry landing. Stage 2 is 115.9 miles and ends in Santa Cruz. The race peloton will cross the Bridge roadway at approximately 8:40 am to 8:50 am. The BRIDGE ROADWAY REMAINS OPEN to traffic during the event.

ADDED GOLDEN GATE FERRY TRIP

On race day, Golden Gate Ferry will add a departure from the San Francisco Ferry Terminal at 7 am for a 7:30 in arrival in Sausalito, in time to catch all the action.

TEMPORARY TRAFFIC IMPACTS & PARKING CLOSURES

Golden Gate Bridge Roadway Lanes

Beginning at MIDNIGHT, the roadway lanes of the Golden Gate Bridge, Doyle Drive and 19th Avenue will be reconfigured to accommodate the Amgen Tour of California Bicycle Racers.
These roadways remain OPEN throughout the transition and throughout the Race.
From midnight to approximately 10:30 am, the Golden Gate Bridge lane configuration will be:
- 2 southbound traffic lanes OPEN
- 2 northbound traffic lanes OPEN
- 2 lanes (two eastern most lanes) closed to accommodate the Amgen Tour of California
By approximately 10:30 am, the Bridge roadway will be returned to 3 northbound lanes and 3 southbound lanes.

Northbound Doyle Dr. and 19th Ave. (heading north from San Francisco)

After MIDNIGHT, northbound Doyle Dr. will have 2 traffic lanes.
After MIDNIGHT, northbound 19th Ave. will be reduced to 1 northbound lane near the Bridge.
Doyle Drive and 19th Avenue will be returned to normal lane configuration by about 10:30 am.

Golden Gate Bridge SOUTH END CLOSURES

Last northbound San Francisco exit off Doyle Drive, just before the GGB toll plaza, will be CLOSED from about midnight to approximately 10:30 am.
Southeast side visitor parking area will be CLOSED from midnight to approximately 10:30 am.
Southwest side visitor parking area will remain OPEN.
Southbound Merchant Rd./25th Ave. exit, right after the toll plaza, will remain OPEN and the intersection of Merchant Rd. and Lincoln Blvd. will be CLOSED from 7:30 am to 10:30 am.

Golden Gate Bridge NORTH END CLOSURES

Northbound Vista Point exit and north end Vista Point parking lot will be CLOSED from MIDNIGHT to approximately 10:30 am.
North west side parking lot (off Conzelman Rd.) will be CLOSED throughout the event.
The portion of Conzleman Road that passes under the north approach viaduct of the Bridge will remain OPEN ONLY to bicyclists and pedestrians, as it always is.

Alexander Avenue CLOSURE

Alexander Avenue is the second northbound exit off Highway 101 at the north end of the Bridge, immediately after the Vista Point exit.
Alexander Avenue will be CLOSED (from the northbound Highway 101 exit at the Golden Gate Bridge to the Sausalito City limits) to vehicle traffic from 6 am to approximately 10:30 am.
Alexander Avenue will remain OPEN only to bicycle and pedestrian traffic during this time.
Alexander Avenue will be re-opened to vehicles by approximately 11 am.

Golden Gate Bridge SIDEWALK ACCESS
Spectators are encouraged to hike or ride to access the Bridge sidewalks as follows:

East sidewalk will OPEN ONLY TO PEDESTRIANS at 5 am. NO BICYCLES will be allowed on the east sidewalk (as is normal on holidays).
West sidewalk will OPEN ONLY TO BICYCLISTS at 5 am (as is normal on holidays).

Accessing the Bridge Sidewalks from 5 am to 10:30 am will be very challenging due to all of the parking lot closures in the vicinity. FREE VALET BIKE PARKING will be provided at Vista Point (north end) and in the southeast visitor area (south end).

The public will be able to access the Bridge sidewalks:

via Battery East Rd. on the south end
via Conzelman Rd. from East Fort Baker on the north end.

Presidio CLOSURES

From 7:30 am to 9:30 am, Lincoln Blvd. and all roads intersecting Lincoln Blvd. from the intersection of Lincoln /Park/McDowell through the 25th Ave. Gate will be CLOSED and there will be no Bridge access from within the Presidio during this closure.

PUBLIC TRANSIT IMPACTS

Golden Gate Transit northbound bus stop, on the east side of the Bridge toll plaza, will NOT BE SERVED from midnight to approximately 10:30 am. Click for more details.
San Francisco Muni Route 29 will be impacted. Route 29 will not operate on Lincoln Blvd. from 7:30 am to 9:30 am due to the closure on Lincoln Avenue in the Presidio. Visit www.sfmuni.com or more information.
PresidoGo will not begin regular weekend/holiday service in the area until 11:00 am

RECOMMENDED RACE VIEWING LOCATIONS

Caledonia Street @ 8:30 am: Spectators are invited to gather on sidewalks. Spectators on Caledonia and Bridgeway portion north of downtown Sausalito will see the cyclists pass by twice.

Bridgeway to Second and up Alexander @ 8:30-8:45 am: The cyclists head south down Bridgeway to Alexander Ave. so you can catch the cyclists on the uphill. NOTE: Alexander will be CLOSED to vehicular traffic at 6 AM so you will need to park in Sausalito and hike/bike to a viewing spot.

Golden Gate Bridge @ 8:30-9:00 am: Access to the Golden Gate Bridge Sidewalks will be very challenging due to the closures of the parking areas in vicinity. FREE VALET BIKE PARKING will be provided at Vista Point (north end) and in the southeast visitor area (south end). People are encouraged to hike or ride to access the Bridge sidewalks as follows:

East sidewalk will open to pedestrians at 5 am. BICYCLES will not be allowed on the East sidewalk as is the normal procedure on weekends/holidays.
West sidewalk will be open to Bicycles ONLY starting at 5 am as is the normal procedure on weekends/holidays.

In The Presidio and beyond: The race turns onto Lincoln Boulevard, then to El Camino Del Mar to the Legion of Honor. Here the race goes right onto Clement and left onto Seal Rock, right onto Point Lobos which becomes The Great Highway. The race goes south to Hwy 35 then to Hwy 1.
