AMGEN TOUR OF CALIFORNIA CROSSES GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE

PRESIDENTS’ DAY - MONDAY, FEBRUARY 16, 2009

MOTORISTS SHOULD EXPECT DELAYS IN THE AREA 7 AM to NOON

GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE REMAINS OPEN DURING EVENT

NO PARKING, NO DROP-OFFS ALLOWED AT THE GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE

PARKING LOTS WILL BE CLOSED AT MIDNIGHT

 

The Amgen Tour of California crosses the Golden Gate Bridge (Bridge) roadway for the first time as part of Stage 2 which begins in downtown Sausalito at 8:30 am on Bridgeway at Spinnaker Drive, a short walk from the ferry landing. Stage 2 is 115.9 miles and ends in Santa Cruz. The race peloton will cross the Bridge roadway at approximately 8:40 am to 8:50 am. The BRIDGE ROADWAY REMAINS OPEN to traffic during the event.

ADDED GOLDEN GATE FERRY TRIP

On race day, Golden Gate Ferry will add a departure from the San Francisco Ferry Terminal at 7 am for a 7:30 in arrival in Sausalito, in time to catch all the action.

Golden Gate Bridge SIDEWALK ACCESS
Spectators are encouraged to hike or ride to access the Bridge sidewalks as follows:

Accessing the Bridge Sidewalks from 5 am to 10:30 am will be very challenging due to all of the parking lot closures in the vicinity. FREE VALET BIKE PARKING will be provided at Vista Point (north end) and in the southeast visitor area (south end).

The public will be able to access the Bridge sidewalks:

RECOMMENDED RACE VIEWING LOCATIONS

Caledonia Street @ 8:30 am: Spectators are invited to gather on sidewalks. Spectators on Caledonia and Bridgeway portion north of downtown Sausalito will see the cyclists pass by twice.

Bridgeway to Second and up Alexander @ 8:30-8:45 am: The cyclists head south down Bridgeway to Alexander Ave. so you can catch the cyclists on the uphill. NOTE: Alexander will be CLOSED to vehicular traffic at 6 AM so you will need to park in Sausalito and hike/bike to a viewing spot.

Golden Gate Bridge @ 8:30-9:00 am: Access to the Golden Gate Bridge Sidewalks will be very challenging due to the closures of the parking areas in vicinity. FREE VALET BIKE PARKING will be provided at Vista Point (north end) and in the southeast visitor area (south end). People are encouraged to hike or ride to access the Bridge sidewalks as follows:

In The Presidio and beyond: The race turns onto Lincoln Boulevard, then to El Camino Del Mar to the Legion of Honor. Here the race goes right onto Clement and left onto Seal Rock, right onto Point Lobos which becomes The Great Highway. The race goes south to Hwy 35 then to Hwy 1.
